Why Carbon Fiber Helmets?
Carbon fiber offers a superior strength-to-weight balance versus fiberglass and generic composites. Less mass means less fatigue and a steadier feel, mile after mile. Paired with tuned EPS, you get confident safety and security without excess bulk. Every shell is handcrafted in small batches - layered, compacted, cured, and precision-trimmed - then finished the Hedon way: British heritage you can feel the moment you pick it up.
Hedon's Carbon Fiber Construction Process
Handcrafted layup. Each shell starts with layers of carbon (and, on some models, selective composite plies) hand-laid into a precision mold to take exact shape and volume. After curing, the shell is trimmed, primed, puttied to fill micro-pores, then meticulously sanded before paint - an artisan process Hedon details in its workshop journal.
Strength-to-weight, built for the head. Carbon’s tightly controlled weave and resin system deliver high stiffness for its mass, allowing a slimmer, low-profile silhouette that stays planted at speed. Tuned EPS works as the energy-management partner in the system, so you get real protection in a shell that feels comfortable mile after mile.
Weight specs (reference models). For context, Hedon’s full face Heroine Classic 2.0 (composite fiberglass/carbon shell) lists typical weights of:
- S/M: 1050g ≈ 2 lb 5oz (2.31lb)
- L/XL: 1100g ≈ 2 lb 7oz (2.43lb)
- XXL/XXXL: 1150g ≈ 2lb 9oz (2.54lb)
This is already light for a road-legal helmet. Carbon editions and iterative shell updates focus on further mass reduction and stability at speed.
Certification. Every road model is tested to modern standards; current Heroine Classic models are ECE 2206 or DOT certified, combining the handcrafted layup with certified impact performance.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is carbon fiber “safer” than fiberglass?
Safety comes from the full system, i.e., shell + EPS + fit + testing. Our carbon fiber, fiberglass, and composite models are ECE or DOT certified and engineered for real-world performance.
How much lighter is carbon?
As a guide, carbon fiber models are typically about 10–15% lighter than comparable fiberglass versions, which helps reduce neck fatigue and keeps the helmet settled at speed.
What’s the handcrafted layup process?
Multi-axial carbon plies are hand-laid with exact resin ratios, compacted for uniform consolidation, then cured, precision-trimmed, and finished. It’s durable craftsmanship you can feel. Take a closer look at our handcrafted process.
Does a lighter helmet change comfort on longer rides?
Yes. Less mass often means less strain and a calmer feel in crosswinds, which ultimately means more comfort over time without giving up protection.
Any care tips?
Wipe the exterior with mild soap and water; avoid harsh solvents. Liners are not removable but are washable. Allow 48 hours for thorough drying before use. Store in a cool, dry place; a helmet bag is recommended. See our Product Care Guide for more tips.
