The Expedition Edit: Adventure Motorcycle Helmet and Gear

Adventure riding asks different things of your kit. You’re on and off the bike more, moving slower over rough ground and faster on the road between it. This edit brings together Hedon’s adventure motorcycle helmet and gear: the Psilo Explorer helmet in five finishes and the Crafted Hands gloves we ride with. Seven pieces, chosen for riders putting a mixed-terrain setup together without piecing it in from different places.

The Psilo Explorer

The Psilo Explorer is Hedon’s adventure and dual sport helmet, built around a full carbon fiber shell with a peak visor and airflow tuned for mixed terrain. Full face coverage with the versatility to switch between highway, gravel, and dirt in a single trip.

Five finishes:

  • Commander: exposed carbon with gold military-style side stripes. The most assertive of the five.
  • Ivory Nomad: a clean ivory finish that leans into the touring side of adventure riding.
  • Signature Black: the classic Hedon anchor, understated and quietly recognizable.
  • Brooklands and Domino: two further colorways with distinct character for riders who want their helmet to stand out without going loud.

Every Psilo Explorer is handcrafted in Britain and certified to ECE 22.06 and DOT, so it’s road legal across the UK, Europe, and the United States. For the full detail on the shell, visor, and ventilation system, see the Psilo Explorer collection.

Crafted Hands Gloves

Hedon’s Crafted Hands leather gloves, in black. Hand cut and stitched, made to season the way the leather in our helmets does. They soften with use rather than wearing through, and the fit becomes closer the more you ride in them. The leather darkens and takes on a patina over months of use, which is the gloves earning their character rather than losing it.

Building Your Adventure Kit

If you’re putting an adventure setup together from scratch, work in this order:

  • Helmet first. It’s the thing you can’t compromise on, and the fit takes the most getting right. Measure your head, check the Helmet Size Chart.
  • Gloves next. You’ll notice a bad pair within the first hour of riding, so good leather gloves are the next win after the helmet.
  • Peaks and spare visors after that. Spare visors matter more on adventure riding than on road, because grit scratches them faster. Browse the Peaks and Visors collection for the current range.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an adventure motorcycle helmet?

An adventure or dual sport helmet combines full face coverage with a peak visor and airflow designed for riding that mixes tarmac and rough ground. The peak shades from low sun and deflects debris at slower off road speeds, while the full face shell gives road-level coverage at highway speeds. The Psilo Explorer is Hedon’s adventure helmet, certified to ECE 22.06 and DOT.

Can I use the Psilo Explorer for road riding only?

Yes. It’s a full face helmet certified to ECE 22.06 and DOT, so it’s road legal in the UK, Europe, and the United States. The peak catches a little more wind at sustained road speeds than a standard full face would. If you never leave tarmac, the Heroine Racer 2.0 will be quieter at highway speeds.

Do adventure helmets work with goggles?

Goggle compatibility varies by helmet and by goggle, so check the Psilo Explorer product page for the current position rather than assuming. Many adventure riders run goggles off road and a visor on road, switching between the two as the surface changes.

How should I look after leather gloves?

Let them dry naturally at room temperature after a wet ride rather than putting them near a radiator, which stiffens and cracks the hide. Work them with your hands as they dry so they keep their shape. They’ll darken and soften with use, which is the leather seasoning rather than wearing out.

What else do I need for adventure riding beyond the helmet and gloves?

The Expedition Edit covers Hedon’s contribution to an adventure setup: helmet and gloves. A full adventure kit typically also includes a protective jacket with CE-rated armor, armored pants, adventure boots with rigid soles and ankle protection, and layered weatherproofing for changing conditions. Hedon doesn’t make the full gear set, so the rest comes from specialist adventure brands.
